I sat in front of my mirror with a straightener in my hand. Music was lightly playing through my stereo and I sang along while I fixed my hair. I was dressed in black skinny jeans with boots and a black tank top. My face was clear of makeup and a silver chain with a purple gem hung from my neck.

"Where are you going again?" My mother asked. She stood in the doorway with a smile on her face. Her long, brown, curly hair was tied back in a pony tail and she was dressed in a white, button up shirt with black dress pants and shoes. She held her black apron in her hand.

"Lazar tagging with Clary," I looked at her through the mirror.

"That sounds fun," She tied her apron around her waist. "Will you be coming home afterwards?"

I shook my head. "Probably not, I'll probably go over Clary's."

"Okay, just so I know what to tell your dad." She said. "Do you need any money?"

"Sure," I got up after straightening my hair and tied my hair in loose hanging pig tails that rested on my shoulders. My mother handed me two twenties before she hugged me and left for work. For the past six years, my mother has worked as a bartender at a fancy Italian restaurant. She loved the money, she would sometimes come home with three hundred dollars in her pocket, but she hated the people that worked with her.

It didn't take me long to finish getting ready. I lay on my bed with my phone laying on my stomach and a held a book above my head. It was around dinner time and the house smelled of food. My father was downstairs cooking dinner. Usually, the nights my mother works, he would cook hamburgers and French fries with a vegetable. I could picture him in front of the drill, cooking his favorite food while my little brother sat on the couch with a remote in his hand and a cartoon on the TV he has seen a thousand times. My father worked from home as a graphic designer. His office was in our attic and, sometimes, I would forget he was home.

"Hey Sierra,"

I looked up from my book to find my little brother standing in my doorway. He was ten-years-old with short, brown hair. He was dressed in gray sweat pants and a plain, blue shirt. He held the TV remote in his hands, his attempt in making sure our father didn't change the channel.

"What Victor?" I looked at my little brother.

"Clary is downstairs," he spoke soft like he was tired, embarrassed, or scared to talk to me.

I looked back at my book. "Alright, I will be done in a minute."

I finished the page I was on before shoving my book into my messenger bag full with everything I would need to stay the night at Clary's and walked downstairs. Clary was in the living room watching TV with my brother. She was dressed in jean capris, a black shirt, and skater shoes.

"Hey," she said as I walked into the room. "You ready to go?"

I nodded. "Yup,"

"Sierra," my father called from the kitchen. "Could you come here for a second?"

I sighed and rolled my eyes. "Coming,"

I walked into the kitchen. The walls were painted white and red with matching lace curtains and wooden cabinets that matched the table in the middle of the room. My father was bent over an open oven, pulling out a tray of French fries with a red oven mitten on his hand. His brown hair was shaved and he dressed in blue jeans.

"Are you leaving Sierra?" He didn't look at me as he placed the tray on top of the stove and closed the oven door.

"Yea,"

"You're not going to eat dinner?"

My father was known to ask five thousand questions before I left the house to do anything. It was another reason I liked leaving when my mother was home. "Clary's boyfriend is taking us out for pizza."

"Clary's what?" He looked at me with a smile.

I sighed. "Clary's friend who is a guy. Can I go now?"

"Do you have any money?" He walked to the back door and slipped on his shoes. "Are you coming home tonight?"

"Didn't mom already tell you this?" I wanted to ask. "Mom gave me money before she left and I am sleeping over Clary's house. I will be home whenever you want tomorrow." I said.

I tried to hide the irritation in my voice. "May I go now? We are supposed to be meeting our friends."

He walked over to me and gave me a quick hug. "Alright, go ahead and go. Just be careful. Make sure your phone is on at all time, be aware of your surroundings, and don't stay out to late."

"Okay dad," He was a loving, overprotective father and, even though I know he was only does what he was does because he loved me, sometimes it was really annoying.

----

Clary and I held light conversation and sang along to the radio on the ride to Jake's. The ride wasn't as long as I hoped it would be. My stomach flipped when we pulled in front of the familiar house. I licked my lips nervously as I climbed out of the car and followed Clary to the kitchen door.

Jake greeted us at the door. He wore black jeans, band t-shirt, and boots. I waited for him to bring up what happened between me and Andy at the party but he acted like nothing has changed. We walked into the kitchen to find three stacked pizza boxes with plastic plates and a bottle of pop.

"You guys are in time, the pizza just arrived," Jake said. "We wanted to wait to eat until you guys came. Feel free to dig in, I'm going to let everyone know you're here."

I was too nervous to eat. Clary immediately dug in and grabbed two slices from the plain pizza box. I grabbed a plate and grabbed one slice. I poured myself a glass of the pop before sitting down to eat. We ate in silence. Jake didn't take too long before he came down stairs with Jinxx and Sammi behind him. Jinxx was dressed in a black t-shirt, jeans, and converses while Sammi wore a black mini shorts with hanging suspenders and a white tank top.

"Hey guys," Jinxx said as he grabbed him and Sammi a plate. "Good to see you again."

"Good to see you too," Clary smiled.

Everyone sat around the kitchen table and talked. My eyes kept wondering to the stairs where I sat at the party reading. I wondered if Andy was coming with us tonight or was I going be like a fifth wheel. I hated being the odd one in a group of couples, it always made me feel as if I shouldn't be there.

"Are you in college too Sierra?" Jinxx asked as he took a bite of his pizza, interrupting my thoughts.

I looked at him and nodded. "Yea, I go to the same community college as Clary."

"What is you major?"

"I'm undecided," I was almost embarrassed to admit that since Clary's major was pre-health. She wanted to be a medical examiner, a career that required thirteen years of schooling. I knew no matter what major I choose, I didn't want to be in school for more than five years.

"That's okay," Sammi said. Her voice was light and she articulated each word as if she was a fairy or an elf. Her voice almost didn't seem real. "There is nothing wrong with that. You have time," she smiled at me.

I returned the smile. "Yea, it just makes me feel like some of the classes my counselor is making me take is for nothing."

"Its credits," Clary replied, sitting very close to Jake. "Just take them and shut up."

Everyone laughed.

Footsteps came down the stairs. Andy walked into the kitchen with a black shirt with sleeves that were cut now to his waist and a large v-cut collar ending at his chest. He had a black chocker with a rosary necklace and thick, black head phones around his neck. The headphones led into the butt pocket of his black, skinny jeans with a bullet and studded belt around his waist. He wore leather, fingerless gloves with black leather bracelets, some with studs and some with buckles.

"It's about time you joined us," Jinxx laughed.

"Sorry about that," Andy walked into the kitchen looking down at his phone. He shoved it into his butt pocket and grabbed a plate. "Scout called."

"Isn't she joining us tonight?" Sammi asked.

Andy shook his head and grabbed two slices of the pepperoni pizza. "She's not into lazar tagging. She's going to a club with some of her acting buddies."

Jake laughed. "It's her lose then."

"I totally agree with you," Andy pulled up a chair next to me and started eating. He looked at me and gave me a smile. "It's good to see you again." His eyes had black makeup on them.

I looked at him. I couldn't believe he just said that after how I left last time. I returned the smile. "It's good to see you too," I grabbed another slice of pizza.
